Swine flu and ice cream

Today is Baskin Robbins 31 cent scoop night! I'm off to get my ice cream! 3 for $1.00!!

Also, news flash 2 probable cases in Madison, AL! All Madison and Huntsville city schools are closed until Monday. The rejoicing that Daniel and his friends just did was PRICELESS!

Baking again...

Why let bananas go to waste? I had several bananas that had started to brown and strawberries that were getting over ripe so I needed a good recipe to use them! I found this great recipe for Strawberry Banana bread and I turned it in to muffins. They were super moist.

Great way to use your fruit before it gets over ripe!

Another Great Weekend!

This weekend was another good one for the books! On my way to AU I made a pit stop in Birmingham to see Allison. Anyone looking for a good read should pick up a new copy of Sandra Lee's new magazine. She actually has recipes I wouldn't mind cooking and eating in her magazine. Sandra is Allison's new boss.

After a happy hour stop with Allison I headed on to AU.

What a treat for me to see Amy again and Allie all in one weekend!

I spent the weekend with my favorite Texas couple, Allie and Eric! Thanks for letting me crash the weekend with you guys again and hang out with your friends.

If you are a history buff looking for a good movie check out Frost Nixon. It was really interesting and the actor who played Nixon did a great job!

MSG

MSG-It doesn't stand for monosodium glutamate. Nice guess though, Amy. Actually it stands for Margarita Support Group. Mom's MSG group met last night. Sadly, I haven't had a meeting of my MSG in a long time. Jessica doesn't like tequila so she can't participate with me. Caylen is forever far away. Laura and I just can't seem to cross paths long enough to enjoy are former MSG time.

At least Marilynn can help a sister out! Hopefully St. Louis will be able to provide me some friends in need of supporting!

War Eagle!

This weekend I am headed back to the loveliest village. What makes going to Auburn even more exciting? Amy will be there too! I'm headed to AU this weekend to see Allie and Eric before they move to Texas and I'm just lucky enough to catch Amy on a weekend there too!

Sadly baseball and softball will be out of town.

Brief NYC Summary

We had a fabulous weekend in NYC! We ate TONS and walked a good bit....not enough to work it all off though. Kat and Laura are posing with Flat Stanley by the Brooklyn Bridge. He was kind enough to travel the whole weekend with us!

Other than a show, the only thing I wanted to do was go to Serendipity 3! We did! We had 3 desserts for the 4 of us to share and they were AMAZING!
Perryn, thanks for the brunch reccomendations! We didn't have enough time to eat at Penelope so we tried a random place the Crooked Knife. Other than bad service it was a pretty decent meal.

I have other pictures to post...they just didn't make it up. We saw Guys and Dolls on Friday night. It was great. Lauren Graham? (Lorelai Gilmore) was in it. So was Oliver Platt from the West Wing. Go see it if you have a chance.

Sunday, I went to Redeemer and actually ran in to Amy! Thanks Jess for telling her I was coming. Great girls weekend! I couldn't have asked for more!

Day 2

Today was another busy day!
Tours: State Department, White House, Holocaust Museum.

Emily and Katherine did the State Department while Laura gave me a tour of the Potomac and part of Georgetown. (She got lost!)

Highlight of the White House tour was seeing 2 Secret Service men head out the front door of the WH in full sniper gear. They had their rifles over their shoulder and all their flashlights, radios and everything else. If only I could have taken a picture!

We made a pitstop at the Native American Museum. I had never been there but on our first floor whirlwind tour it was pretty cool. And if you are in the neighborhood and looking for some good food that would be the place to stop.

Most of us had not been to the Holocaust museum before so we went today. You could spend most of your day there if you wanted to do so. We were there several hours looking around. I like that you can choose how graphic of a visit you want. Thanks Museum People for making it a more enjoyable experience.

After snack time on the mall we headed home. For a great dinner in the neighborhood.
The evening will conclude with fresh brownies and some 2buckChuck!

NYC tomorrow!

Day 1

So today has been a rainy, wet day! We arrived safely and had a tour from the professional Laura Chambers. Flat Stanley also made the trip with us. He will be making an appearance in the fall in Emily's classroom.
Laura hard at work for the Senator.MLK and Flat Stanley in the Capitol building.

Emily and Katherine trekking through rain after a trip to Trader Joe's! A little bit of 2buckChuck in tow.

A whole great weekend ahead!

Planes, Trains, & Automobiles!

I'm heading out at 0545 in the morning for DC!
I understand we are in tough economic times and everyone needs their money to come in from someplace. But seriously! is it necessary to charge $15.00 for a checked bag?!

How ridiculous! Southwest is kind enough to not charge and then give free drinks (adult beverages even on the holidays!).

I really think the airlines should reconsider the luggage charge.

Caitlin is in town!

Caitlin is in town for the week working in Huntsville. Last night I gave her a tour of the town and of course took her to Little Rosie's! It will be more exciting in a few weeks when she and I can actually play after work. She will be back the first week of May and get to meet all my friends then!
Tomorrow is the big day. Emily, Katherine, and I leave for DC! We are all so excited about our girls weekend in DC and the Big Apple! Can't wait to explore.

Money, money, money!

So I didn't win the lottery but I did get a small scholarship offer this weekend from Covenant! Woot!
Praise the Lord for the money he is providing. The scholarship is only good for the first year but still it will cover partial tuition for fall/spring/jan-term!

Thanks for the prayers!

Hope you had a Happy Easter!

Happy Birthday JD!

Happy 19th Birthday Daniel!!

Today is JD's 19th Birthday, this picture is from 2006. How much he has grown up since then! Tonight instead of celebrating with the family he is going to "Junior-Senior" Madison Academy's version of prom.

I hope you have a great birthday JD! You are a fabulous little brother.

(More recent picture, after Jordan kicked his tail at the Shamrock Run.)

I love a good Italian margarita! Johnny Carino's has really good frozen one, Macaroni Grill you need to get it on the rocks. None the less they are super tasty! Last night was happy hour (without any of the specials) with a friend. So if you are craving a margarita that tastes a little bit better than a normal one here you go! (Sorry Jess!)

1 oz amaretto almond liqueur
2 oz sweet and sour mix
1/2 oz Jose Cuervo® Especial gold tequila
1/2 oz triple sec

Nashville Suggestions

I'm heading up to Nashville on Monday to pick up a friend at the airport. I'm hoping to grab dinner with her afterward. Any suggestions for places to eat?

(That's the "Batman" building in Nashville FYI)

Super excited about dinner tonight with Cheryl Doss Gangyl and her husband and daughter. I haven't seen her in years! Talk about a blast from the past!

GOOD LUCK LAURA! Say a little prayer for her today! She is taking part of the CPA exam.

Happy Friday everyone! I know I'm thrilled its the weekend. Just counting down the hours until I'm off!

Spring is in the Air

ADVERTISEMENT: Anyone interested in reading a new magazine? In support of my friends and stimulating our economy go out and buy the new magazine! OR at least check out the website! SO proud of you!!

Mom had one of her best friends from childhood come to visit this yesterday. They drove around Huntsville and ate at Lil’ Rosie’s. I hope that I can do that with my friends. I look forward to visits from all of you one day after we all have kids who are grown and can reminisce about growing up together!

It's about that time...Despite what Dan Satterfield says we may be planting in the garden this weekend! Is there really going to be a cold snap in the next week? I'm excited about being able to plant a bunch of vegetables. One of my goals this summer is to learn how to can.

At Christmas I got a cookbook on canning. Laura, I may be making a trip to your house to learn from your mom because my mother has NO idea! So hopefully I will have some tasty pickles for us to eat later.
